Roni Sugiarto is one of Indonesia’s leading conductors specializing in children’s and youth choirs. Under his direction, Saint Angela Choir (SAC) has earned widespread recognition, winning top honors at international competitions and festivals in Hangzhou, Rome, Florence, South Korea, Tokyo, Rimini, and Tolosa. In 2017, SAC won 2nd Prize in the Children’s Choirs category at the 49th Tolosa Choral Contest in the Basque Country. Notably, SAC earned recognition in the Children’s Choir Category and the Grand Prix at the 5th Tokyo International Choir Competition. Most recently, the choir achieved its most prestigious accomplishments by winning the World Choral Championship 2024 in Rimini, Italy, and claiming the Grand Prix at the 4th International Bandung Choir Festival in 2024.

Roni’s musical journey has been shaped by the mentorship of Joseph Kristanto and Avip Priatna. In 2009-2010, he was awarded a scholarship from the German Government (Goethe-Institut) to further his conducting studies through the Conducting for Orchestra program in Bangkok, Thailand, under the guidance of Maestro Gudni A. Emilsson (Tübingen, Germany). His international experience also includes singing with the Indonesia National Youth Choir (2005) and the World Youth Choir in Milan (2006), South Africa (2007), and Hong Kong-Guangzhou-Macau (2008). Additionally, he has refined his craft through masterclasses led by distinguished musicians such as Mark Anthony Carpio and Jonathan Velasco (Philippines), Julie Spittill (Australia), Marcus LaPratt (USA) William Lock (USA) and Andre de Quadros (USA).

Currently, Roni serves as the Music Director of both ITB Student Choir and Saint Angela Choir, as well as the Artistic Director for the Saint Angela Children and Youth Choir Festival and Satya Dharma Gita International Choir Festival. In addition to his conducting and artistic leadership, he is an experienced jury member in choir competitions and actively shares his knowledge through workshops and training sessions for choirs and aspiring young conductors.
