Categories

A1 – Music for Early Children Choir

  • Should be a composision, not an arrangement of another piece.
  • Duration : 2-4 minutes.
  • Language : English / Latin.
  • Voice Composition : 2-parts / SA, divisi may only apply on 10% of the piece.
  • Accompaniment : Piano accompaniment, may also use other unpitched instruments such as percussions or body percussions.

A2 – Music for Advanced Children Choir

  • Should be a composition, not an arrangement of another piece.
  • Duration : 3 – 5 minutes.
  • Language : English / Latin.
  • Voice Composition : SSAA, divisi more than SSAA may only apply on 10% of the piece.
  • Accompaniment : no pitched instruments are allowed.

Rules

  • Composition competition is open for the public, with no age restriction.
  • Each participant may submit a maximum of 2 pieces in each category.
  • For each piece, the participant will submit a .pdf score, and a .mp3 sample of the piece.
  • The name of the participant, MUST NOT APPEAR IN ANY WAY inside the score / mp3.
  • The pieces submitted by each participant, must not be published / performed before 14 February 2026.
  • The winner of composition competition will have the music premierred by SAINT ANGELA CHOIR.
  • The copyright of the piece will stay with the composer.

Failure to follow these rules might result in DISQUALIFICATION of the participant. No registration fees will be returned in this case.

Assessment Criteria

Each piece will be assessed on a 100-point scale based on this criteria :

  • (A) Originality & Clarity of Theme : the form of the music,
  • (B) Use of the Text : correct word-stressing, appropriate phrasering etc.
  • (C) Melody & Harmony : creativity and appropriateness of melodies and harmonies used in the music.
  • (D) Dynamics & Rhythm : creativity and appropriateness of dynamics and rhythms used in the music.
  • (E) Artistic Creativity : other aspects such as accompaniments, effects, or even the absence of it.
  • (F) Feasibility to be Performed : how feasible the piece is to be sang by the choir.
